Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes, Fatima, Lisbon and Barcelona successfully concluded
The 11th consecutive annual pilgrimage to Lourdes, Fatima, Lisbon and Barcelona brought a new
spirt of joy and quietness to the lifes of the 130 Srilankan catholic pilgrims who partecipated at
this year pilgrimage from 1st August to 8th August.
The pilgrimage was organized by Rt. Rev. Mgr. Neville Joe Perera who as every year accompaign
the group.
This year the Srilankan catholic community of Catania joined the Srilankan Rome catholic
community with their chaplain Rev. Fr. Christie Perera.
Former Parish Priest of Firenze Rev. Fr. Leo Perera also joined the group.
The group went first to Lourdes, where they visited the grotto of appearances and the native house
of Saint Bernedette. The pilgrims had the opportunity of having the bath in the miraculous water.
Then as scheduled they went to the Basilica of Our Lady of Fatima and the day after; Lisbon where
they visited the birthplace of Saint Anthony.
The last stop was Barcelona, where the group visited the Cathedral of "Sagrada Familia" - Holy
Family, a great architectural building whose works began in 1882 and has to be concluded yet.
Two Holy Masses have been arrange in sinhala language; one in Lourdes and one in Fatima.
This pilgrimage takes 7 days: 2 days and 1 night in Lourdes, 2 day and 1 night in Fatima and 1 day
and 1 night in Barcelona and takes one and half day on roads (about 36 hours).
