Rev. Mother Nirmala Joshi, who succeeded Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta as the

 

head of her Missionaries of Charity and expanded the movement overseas, died on

 

Tuesday 23th June at the age of 80.

 

After taking over the charity following Mother Teresa's death in 1997, Mother Nirmala

 

expanded the organisation to 134 countries by opening centres in nations such as

 

Afghanistan, Israel and Thailand.

 

Rev. Mother Mary Prema Pierick (62) from Germany will succeed her as Head of the

 

Missionaries of Charity.
