"The Family is a part of the Mystery of God" Cardinal says at Matara feast
The 108th Annual Feast of Our Lady of Matara was celebrated this morning (13).
His Eminence Malcom Cardinal Ranjith celebrated as the Chief Celebrant together with His Lordship Rt. Rev. Raymond Wickramasinghe, the Bishop of Galle and the Vicar General Rev. Fr. Charles Hewawasam.
His Eminence focused His homily to the theme of Family and its spiritual Life.
"We have a spiritual Life but nobody give importance to that and prefer thinking to earthly life" Cardinal said.
It is a must to give importance to spiritual Life, we can strengthen or even destroy it, as God has given us the freedom to act.
Family Life is a Divine Call and it is created by God as a Member and Creator.
His Eminence recalling an old sinhala song said:" A family is not formed by two as the song sings but by three; the female and male patners and God".
Cardinal Ranjith underlined the sad family situation which prevails in western coutries as civil and de facto marriage from persons of the same sex or partners who live together but do not receive the sacrament of Holy Marriage.
This bad society will go very down as people would next marry animals.
Families must not be afraid of having children; one of the main reason is that partners put money before children.
Card. Ranjith further stated that the abortion is a sin as we deny life to a human creature who lives in his mother's womb.
At the end His Eminence the Archbishop of Colombo concluded citing the example of the family of Saint. Mother Theresa of Calcutta. Her father and mother will be soon elevated to the Sainthood and two of her four sisters are already Saints. It is significant to remind you that all the 4 sisters and Mother Theresa were religious consecretated sisters. And tha St. Theresa was the 9th child of Mr. Luis; "what would have happen if they aborted her?" Cardinal said.
Most. Rev. Dr. Malcom Ranjith then asked the faithfull to pray the Holy Rosary istead of watching teledramas and to entrust to Our Lady of Matara and the Holy Family, the future of our families.
