Auxiliary Bishop of Rome pays pastoral visit to the Sri Lankan Community

On October 11, the Sri Lankan Catholic community in Rome gathered at the parish of Santa Maria dei Pellegrini all'Infernetto, where their chaplaincy is located, to welcome Most Rev. Dr. Andrea Carlevale, auxiliary bishop for the southern region of the diocese of Rome.
Upon his arrival, the bishop was welcomed by Msgr. Neville Perera, chaplain for the srilankan community in Rome, and by Rev. Fr. Indika Joy and Fr Deninton Subasinghe.
Before the Holy Mass, His Lordship met with the catechism students, who then welcomed him with the customary welcome that characterizes the Sri Lankan people: giving a garland of flowers.
During his homily, His Lordship recalled how only with God our life is truly joyful: "Human life is not easy; in fact, it's very difficult, you know this better than me. Accept God into your life; only with God, our lives become a happy and joyful existence."
Before the final blessing, Msgr. Perera thanked the bishop for his presence and heart-touching words of the homily.
At the end of the celebration, which was held in Italian and Sinhala languages, the faithful had the opportunity to exchange a few words and recount their experiences in Italy with the Auxiliary Bishop, who interestingly asked questions and spoke friendly with all and posed for photos.
Commenting the pastoral visit of the Auxiliary Bishop, Rev. Msgr. Neville said: "our community is delighted in having Bishop Andrea here today. His Lordship is one of the new four auxiliary bishops of the papal diocese of Rome who was appointed in february 2026. With his simplicity he spoke direct to people's heart today".
